Black Hawk Wreck Dive & Scallop Drift

Sorry cancelled this event due a nasty storm front coming in over the weekend and yellow alerts being raised by the Met Office!

Enjoy a full day on our purpose built diving RIB where'll you'll get to do two great dives:

Morning dive: Black Hawk (depth 18m)

Afternoon dive: Scallop Drift Dive (depth 18m)

Black Hawk Wreck - Worbarrow Bay:

The Black Hawk was an American Liberty Ship built in New Orleans. On her third Atlantic crossing she took a torpedo in the aft hold by a German sub in December 1944. While the aft remains off the coast of Portland, the bow was towed towards Poole with the intention of docking her there but due to a bad storm the bow sank in 18 metres of water in the middle of Worbarrow Bay.

Scallop Drift Dive - off the coast of Portland:

This dive will focus on scallops, lobsters and crabs... see what you can spot as we do a leisurely dive just off the coast.

What to expect from the day:

Launching from Weymouth, we'll head out and dive the Black Hawk wreck first. We'll then tuck into a bay and have some lunch before kitting up again for the second dive.

What to bring:

• Your own equipment if you wish to use it (you can hire club equipment for the day at an additional cost)
• Drinks (make sure you bring enough water with you for dehydration)
• Lunch - we have a cool box we can keep your sandwiches chilled!
• Sunscreen

• Good to know:

  • All divers must be qualified and hold current certification of BSAC Ocean Diver or PADI Open Water as minimum
  • Both dives appeal to all levels of Scuba Diver from beginners to the most experienced
  • You will need to ensure you have two cylinders for the day (we can provide these at an additional cost)
  • Anything that goes on the boat is likely to get wet, so please keep personal items to a minimum
  • Dive plan is weather dependent, we will notify of any changes / cancellations a day in advance
